Chief of Estonian Defence Forces on official visit in the kingdom of Denmark

Chief of Estonian Defence Forces Lieutenant General Ants Laaneots was on official visit in the Kingdom of Denmark 9-11 September 2009. The Chief of Estonian Defence Forces Lieutenant General Ants Laaneots discussed the future military cooperation of Estonian and Danish Defence Forces with the Chief of Danish Defence Forces Admiral Tim Sloth Jørgensen.

Topics discussed included NATO’s new strategic concept, military operations necessary for fulfilling North Atlantic Treaty Article 5, Baltic air security mission, development of the Baltic Defence Collage, the situation in Southern parts of Afganistan and future army cooperation between Estonia and Denmark.

Denmark is one of Estonia’s major partners in defence related co-operation. The two countries have   soldiers operating side-by-side in Helmand province in Southern Afghanistan.

The Chief of Estonian Defence Forces visited the Danish Division (Danske Division) drill LOYAL JEWEL, which is a part of NATO Response Force training programme. He also visited the air force base at Skrydstrup, where the Danish fighter-planes securing the Estonian airspace are based.
