Arvo Pärt awarded Denmark's premier music prize

The Léone Sonning Music Prize, which is the highest musical recognition in Denmark, will be given to Estonian composer Arvo Pärt next year. On May 22nd 2008, Arvo Pärt will receive the Léonie Sonning Music Prize of DKK 600,000 at a concert in the DR Concert hall with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra/DR and the Danish National Choir/DR directed by Tõnu Kaljuste. On May 20th, Ars Nova and Athelas Sinfonietta will give a concert in Garrison Church in Copenhagen. The programme consists exclusively of works by Pärt and the concert is conducted by Paul Hillier.
